So I tried upping my aperture to 2.8 (I had been sticking around 1.4-1.8 because I use natural light and need to keep my shutter speeds high). I love this shot, but am annoyed that 1 eye is slightly OOF. Just a little soft. Arrggghhhh! ;)

I know it's because I was too close to the subject. If I had backed up a little bit and cropped in camera I think I would have been better off.

Other than the one soft eye, any CC? :) Do you like the composition?

That should say "cropped in post production". :)

First - she's just too cute! I think the focus looks pretty good - like you might have had it and then she moved 1/16 of an inch. Stinker! LOL The catch lights are great, too.

I think you nailed the only real issue with this image - and answered your own question on how to make it better next time...all that being said, this is a stunning capture. Her eyes are gorgeous, as are the catchlights and the DOF is great.

Thanks ladies! I think all in all it's getting better though! I love how you can see her bottom teeth poking through. I took more today of the kids with an aperture of 2.8 to 4 so we'll see how those close-ups came out! With a 2.8 it works perfect if you're further away but so close like this it's tough to get both in focus.

Good for you for trying different apertures and focus points. Even having one eye in great focus is something to be proud of and this is a great capture. I think this one would look pretty great in BnW too. I also love those little teeth popping out.
